Generic Name: Dexamethasone + Tobramycin

Composition
Each ml contains Tobramycin BP 3 mg and Dexamethasone BP 1 mg.
Description
Tobi DX is a combination preparation of Tobramycin & Dexamethasone. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid and Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It is used in the eye to prevent permanent damage, which may occur with certain eye problems.
Indications
Tobi DX is used to treat inflammation and a possible infection that may result from the surgery of the eye.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: One drop instilled into the conjunctival sac every 4 to 6 hours while the patient is awake. During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosage may be increased to one drop every two hours while the patient is awake, for a maximum of 24 days. Frequency should be decreased gradually as the improvement in clinical signs.
Children: Safety and effectiveness in children below the age of 2 years have not been established.
Side-effects
Tobramycin may cause hypersensitivity and localised ocular toxicity, including lid itching and swelling and conjunctival erythema. These reactions occur in less than 4% of patients. The reactions due to dexamethasone are: elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP), with possible development of glaucoma and infrequent optic nerve damage; posterior subcapsular cataract formation and delayed wound healing.
Precautions
Shake the bottle well before use. To prevent contamination do not touch the tip of the bottle to affected eye, eyelid or any surface of the affected eye. Keep the bottle tightly closed after use.
Contraindications
Tobi DX is contraindicated in epithelial herpes simplex keratitis (dendritic keratitis), vaccinia, varicella and other viral disease of the cornea and conjunctiva.It is contraindicated in mycobacterial infections of the eye caused by acid-fast bacilli such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium leprae, or Mycobacterium avium. Fungal diseases of eye, untreated purulent infections of the eye. Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication.
Use in Pregnancy & Lactation
Safety for use during pregnancy and lactation in humans has not been established.
Overdose
A topical overdose of Tobi DX may be flushed from the eye(s) with lukewarm tap water.
Storage ConditionsStore below 30O C in a cool and dry place protected from light. Keep all medicine out of reach of children. Solution can be used up to 30 days after first opening.
